RE-DIVISION OF THE WARDS.

Councillor Fraser enquired at the meeting of the City Council last night whether any reply had been sent to the committee of ratepayers which had waited on tho Council in reference to tho re-distribu-tion of the wards. . Councillor Tatum, stated that the committee appointed by the Council had not been called together in consequence of the illness of Mr Page. ' . • Councillor Fraser said tho matter was a most important one, and he suggested that the committee should ascertain how the re-division of the wards was carried out six years ago. Something must be done. They must either have five wards, and he did not feel inclined to support that, a re-distribution of the existing wards, or make one ward for the whole of the city. (Councillor Harris: Hear, hear.) Perhaps, however, the latter proposal would be a little too democratic. A re-division of the wards would meet the difficulty, and ho suggested that this should be done for the annual elections in September. On his motion it was decided that tho committee appointed by tho Council, should furnish a report on the subject at the next meeting of the Public Works Committee.
