WILL THE GOVERNMENT ALLOW IT?

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —The system now introduced by the Minister in charge of the Government Printing Office of giving employment, not only to New Zealanders, but also to strangers from Australia, by going off in batches of, say, ten, in turns, is all very well; but I am sure that the Government is not aware of the fact that ten vacant frames that is, ample room for ten men to be employed —exists at tho present time in the piece-room of tho above printing office. Last session these frames were all filled; and why not this session, and at once, especially when we have a far larger number of compositors out of work. As the present Government has introduced a good precedent, that of giving preference to married men, it' is to be hoped that the Minister in charge, the Hon Mr Cadmnn, will give instructions forthwith, and aeo that the above vacant frames are filled. There can bo no excuse that tho frames should he kept vacant. —I am, &0., - Of? and On. .
