The Vossische Zeitung says it is believed the Lower House of Bavaria will acquiesce in the deposition of King Otto. The British Legation in Brazil is protecting Portuguese subjects. The Times, commenting on Canadian affairs, says Australia is disposed to solve the Labour question on principles involving negation of the saoredness of contract and the stability of private property, but in Canada it is very different. The undergraduates of Oxford University, including a number of peers, are protesting against the rustication of the Christ Church College students. The parents of the latter are indignant at the severity of their sentence, and threaten to prosecute the University authorities. Some Russians have founded a steamship company to trade between America and Vladivostook, connecting at the latter port with the Siberian Railway. The Turkish Government is sending 2600 men and fourteen guns to suppress a rising among the Albanians. Cold stores capable of storing 2000 tons of butter and cheese are being erected in Tooley street, London. Tho London Spectator says a letter received from a Sydney workman states that strikes have caused 99 per cent, of the present misery in Australia. It is feared that further reductions in Civil servants 1 salaries will be necessary in Victoria. If additional taxation is required the Government is almost certain to resort to the income tax proposals of last session, with an absentee tax.
