WILLINGTON ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the above society took place last night in the Dresden Company’s coucert ball. About 25 members were present. Mr W, F. Parsons was to the chair.
Tlie Secretary' subinltted the report and balance-sheet, etc., which were adopted on the Chairman’s motion. The report stated that daring the season four subscription concert* bad been given, at which 20 om* plete orchestral works bad been performed, including three symphonies. There were also four instrumental solos and 10 vocal pieces. Four chamber oucerta were qiven, the gross receipt? being £33 13>. Thanks were accorded to Misaks Medley, Jobnsoa, Parsons, Grieg, Mra Qierea, Mrs Holt, Mrs Miller, and Meters Hagb Wright, JS. J. Sill, and Robert Parker for the assistance they had rendered. There were 114 bon members on the register, bat 10 retired from various cause?. The orchestra numbered 41 performers; 9 were admitted and 9 retired daring the season. The average attendance bad been 27*5. Tne dramatic performance given by members of the late Thespian Clnb in aid of the fond for the purchase of a new set of kettle-drams realised nearly £lO. Owing to an oxcaptlonally large number of subscribers having neglected to pay their subscriptions, the society was seriously hampered ia its opera• tioos. roerecti.ti bad amounted to £'>93 17s 6d, the principal items being hooorary members’ subscriptions, £SI 10< bd ; per* forming members' eubscriptioas, £24.i9« 6d • proceeds of four subscription concerts, £ *9 14s 6d ; proceeds of chamber oono-rts, £3O 13s.
