LICENSING MATTERS AT SYDENHAM.

DEPUTATION PROM THE PROHIBITION LEAGUE. A deputation from the Prohibition League, consisting of Messrs Dodgshan (vioo-presi. dent), John Niool (sen etary), Collins, A. R. Atkinson, A. J. Chisholm and E. Taylor, of , Sydenham, waited upon the Minister of ‘justice (Hon A. J. Cadmsn) yesterday morning to ask what action the Government propose to take with reference to the present licensing committee of the Sydenham dlstriot. The Minister replied that the Government were advised by the Crown law officers not to interfere in the matter. The recent division of the borough into wards neoeasi. tated the creation of separate licencing districts for the various wards, and as a committee would therefore have to be elected for each of these wards the functions of the present committee would have to be determined. Mr Taylor enquired when the ward licensing elections would take place, and the Minister informed him that tbja iqatter rested entirely‘with the Borough Council, whioh would have to take the necessary steps as prescribed by statute.
