Mr George Ellis, Mayor, preluded, and made a touching speech. A Urge and influential committee was formed to make a bouse to hnuie canvass, it is also pfOposed to give a band concert on the racecourse on Sunday week, when it is expected three brass b'*uda will take part. The Mayor wit ask the Commissioners to run a special train and give the proceeds to the funds. The band will also give an open air concert on Saturday night, and a progress subscription will be taken up. Hope U expressed teat tbe council will decide on the No. 3 engine instead of No. 2, as the latter will only cost £IOO more, and the extra water will he equal to another engine. A few pounds ibould not be allowed to stand in the way when arranging for suob a necessary projection.
