THE YACHT RONA.
HER VOYAGE FROM AUCKLAND. Tha yacht Rona, from Auckland, arrived here yesterday evening s be left the northern port at 4 p go. on Thursday, the Oth lust., with a light wind, and was he. oalmed the first night off Cape Colville. Sbe resumed her journey at noon on Friday, and experienced light weather until nearing Gisborne, when it commenced to blow very bard, and she accordingly ran into Gisborne for shelter at 4 p rn. on Sunday. Leaving again At 3 p.m. on Monday a heavy north* west wind carried her right up to Napier, which she reached at 530 on Tuesday morning, thus performing the journey from Gisborne to Nap*er in the really quick tune of just over 14 hoars. After a stay of five days in the Jaltvr port the Rona left on Saturday last, bat lo consequence of the heavy southerly wind that was blowing abe was forced to put back after going a few miles. Another start was made at G on Sunday morning, and she arrived off Cape Turnagain the same night. About 8 o’olrck on Monday morning abe picked up a heavy north west gale, and had to heavodo all night under a try?all, under shelter of Capo Pallisor. The weather at this time was the worst they had had during the whole voyage, and the crew speak in very high termi of the way in which the vessel behaved. The journey was resumed yesterday morning, the yacht sailing down the harbour nn.ltr all canvas about half-past 0 yesterday evening, and bringing to an anchorage off the breastwork at the southern end of the Railway wh»rf. The Kona is a live-ton rater, and was built by MrR Logan, of Auckland. She measures 21liffc load water line and 42ft over all. Her beam is 7ft din ; she has 4£ tons of lead outside an I 10 owt inside; her extreme length is 41ft, and draws 7ift. She is cutler-rigged and polo-masted ; sbe was built of kauri on the design of a Horne racing beat oillei The Valentine (G. L. Watson’s). The Kona is splendidly fitted up inside, has a patent pump and winch, Ax, and is perhaps tbe finest o aft of ber kind that has ever visited Wellington, She possesses two suits of canvas, and came down under her cruising sat. Captain R. Butt was in command, bis crew being J. Shaw and J. Beaton, both of AU’klaod. Mr K. Logan, tbe builder, was also on board.
