PROHIBITION IN SYDENHAM. (press association.) Christchurch, Jane 15. At a meeting of tbe Sydenham Licensing Committee to-day tbe licenses of the three remaining hotels were refused. Therefore, after 30:h Jane no licenced bouse will exist in Sydenham. The popnlation of the borough numbers 10,800 4 peraonB. INDIGNATION MEETING IN DUNEDIN. Dunedin, June 15.
At a meeting of those interested in the liquor traffic this afternoon the following resolutions were carried ;—“ That this meetlog sympathises w>th the licensed holders who - have been deprived of their fineness without any sufficient cause or reason being assigned by the Licensing Committee ; that committees bo appointed to consalt with tbe most prominent legal authorities to ascertain what steps oan betaken to remote the action of the Roalyn Committee : that a deputation be appointed to interview the members of the Hou-se of Representatives to bring these matters before them, and endeavour to induce them to exert themselves to get tbe Licensing Act amended and placed upon a. more just, definite and satisfactory footing.'* Mr Vincent Pyke was the mover of tbe resolutions. Reference was made to the hardship inflicted on some whose houses were closed, large sums having been ex pended at the instance o! tbe former committee. Auckland, June 15. The Licensing Committee for Auckland East, at an adjourned meeting to-day, refused to renew tbe licenses for the Pacific Hotel in Queen street, and tbe Provincial Hotel in Shortland street, on the gtonnd that those places are not required.
