THE SOOTH ISLAND MEDALLIST.
(PSE33 ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, Jane 3, Sergeant Jones, of tbe Kumara Hides, with 95 points, has taken tbe Government gold medal for the best shot in the Soath Island.- Corporal Tempero, of tbe Oemaru Rifles, with 94 points, was second. Tbe average shooting of tbe Soath Island men was several points io advance of the average of tbe North.
The asual weekly parade of tbe Wellington Hides was held in the DrilUbed last night. There was a good muster, Llea. tenants laherwood and Duthie being io command. Tbe corps was divided into two squads and exercised by Colonr-Sergeant Ciaridge and Sergeant Gibson in sgaad drill and sword-bayonet exercise. Before the parade was dismissed lieutenant laherwood presented the following members of the corps with service and efficiency badges, which bad been given by tbe Government: —Sergeant Kanghtoo, two stars ; Sergeant Blanch, two stars; Sergeant Gibson, one star ; Sergeant Mowbray, one star ; Private Prondfoot, one star.
