The total amount received during the year 1890 at the 296 offices in the Colony was L 1,053,543 3s sd, representing 162,938 deposits. The withdrawals during the year wore 106.868, representing L1,500,43T ; the excess of deposits during the year over withdrawals being about L 158,105145. The cost of management daring tire same period was LSOOO. The interest paid for the year was L 923,19 Os Cd. The total number of accounts opened during the year was 23,719, and the number closed 17,250, leaving 97,208 remaining open. The total amount standing to the credit of all open accounts, inclusive of interest, to the close of the year was L 2,441,876 8s 7d, the average amount standing to the credit of each open account being L 25 2s 4d. During the year the total number of deposits received at Auckland was 16,940, representing L 203,298 IGi 101; at Christchurch 32,985, representing L 342,603 8s; at Dunedin 29,667, representing L 261,134 5s 6d ; and at Wellington 32,680, representing L 321,217 17s lid.
