SHIPPING SUMMARY.

If anything, shipping has been a little quieter this month, especially so outside the export of frozen moats. At present there is only one sailing vessel loading for London— Ihe Akaroa—and she expects to be a full ship at the end of the week or the commencement of next. The Pleiades took in a small portion of hsr outward cargo here, and left for Picton on the 14th, where she will fill up. The E.M.S. Eimutaka arrived here ou the 25th March, bringing 1920 tons of cargo and 113 passengers for all ports. During the voyage C. H. Lovett, an A. 8., and W. Friodlow, second cook, died, both from natural causes. The Eimutaka left for Port Chalmeia on the Ist April, and she left Lyttelton for London on the 18th, with a full cargo and a large number of passengers. The Elinor Vernon, a three masted schooner, arrived from New York on the 27th March, having left America on the Bth November. She brought part cargo for this port and the remainder for Auckland, for which port she left on the 12th inst. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s cargo steamer Otarama arrived here on the 12th inst., and left again on the 16th for London with au exceptionally large cargo of frozen meats, wool, flax, &c. The Shaw-Savili steamer lonic arrived here on the 13th inst., and left on the 18th for Port Chalmers. She returns here, making this her final port of departure. During the passage from London the infant son of a thlrd'dasa passenger named Divine died of bronchitis. The same company’s cargo steamer Maori arrived from the Coast on the 17th inst.. and leaves on the 23rd for Picton to fill up. She returns here for coal, making this her final port of departure, leaving about the end of the month. The barque Castor, chartered by the New Zealand Shipping ComJ>any, left here on the 7th inst. with one of the argest cargoes of wool taken by any sailing vessel from New Zealand. The same Company have chartered the four-masted ship Craigburn, of 1997 tons register, to load here for Home. She is at present in Melbourne, and is expected at Wellington in about three weeks’ tlmo.

An official enquiry into the circumstances of the running ashoro of the steamer has been held at New Plymouth. The certificates of the chief officer and the master (Captain Meades) were returned, and the master was ordered to pay the expenses of the enquiry, amounting to JL3S.
