A BRITISH STEAMER FIRED ON.

(Received April 21,1.20 a.m.) Capetown, April 20.
The Portuguese to-day fired on the British steamer Agnes, which was conveying the pioneers of the Willoughby expedition to Mashonaland, and seized the vessel’s cargo. Lisbon, April 20.
The Portuguese Government is prepared to conclude a treaty with Great Britain respecting South African territory. (Received April2l, 0.50 a.m.) Capetown, April 20.
The Boers are establishing a Republic in Mashonaland and Manicaland. The Portuguese are conniving with them, and their action is likely to complicate matters with England.
