AQUATICS.

The first heat for the junior Fours (Star Boating Club) was rowed on Saturday afternoon, Wiggins’ crew defeating Mills’ by two lengths. The captain (Mr W. H. Field) judged the race, and Mr F. Jackson acted as starter. The dual heat of the Junior Fours of the Wellington Bowing Club was rowed on the southerly course on Saturday afternoon last. The tace was the closest and hardest rowed of the present season, victory being wrested from Dix’s crew at the post and only by a foot, and the defeat being attributable to the wild steering of the cozewain of the losing crew. The winning crew was as followsW. Simona (bow), A. Burns (2), J. Murphy (3), G. Hill (stroke), T. Dix (coxswain) ; the losers being J. Butler (bow), A. Ballingali (2), H. Eowntree (3), S. Dix (stroke), C. Dix (coxswain). Both crews got off well together, but when only a quarter of the distance had been rowed a foal occurred through Hill’s coxswain taking the water of his opponent ; and the boats were called back by the starter, who sent them off for a eeoond time. Dix’o boat soon forged ahead, and but for the erratic coarea steered he would doubtless have come in some two or thiee lengths before his opponents. Just at the post, however, Hill put on a spurt and won by a foot. Mr Bridson acted as starter, whilst Mr E. D. Barber officiated as judge.
