THE MINISTER OF LANDS AND MR SEYMOUR.

Early yesterday afternoon Mr R. Seymour had an interview with the Minister of Lands with respect to the application for a blook of land on which a number of men could settle. The proposals mads by the Minister to Mr Seymour are as follow :—The blook in t’ie Mangatainoka is available, and contains about 5500 acres, exclusive of roads and small necessary reserves. The average price of the land is 25s per acre, including surveys, the prices of individual sections ranging from 10s to 50s per acre. The rent of the whole blook (on perpetual lease) will be £173 for the first half year, and £SO deposit is asked for. the balance to be paid on completion of survey and allotment of sections. The block is cut up into 19 sections of 100 acres, 6 of 150, 5 of 200, 3 of 259, and 2 of 375. In all there would be abont 35 homesteads. The selectors will, if they accept the terms, take their chance of Parliament accepting next session the proposal made by Government in the last Financial Statement, and having the first two years’ rent remitted to be spread over the balance of the term. These proposals will be considered by Mr Seymour and the block inspected before an answer is given to them. The Minister, it may be added, advised Mr Seymour that by taking some of the land already surveyed the people would be able to start felling timber at once, whereas by waiting for the offered blook, which will take two months to be surveyed, they will lose the present felling season.
