DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

KAROEI SCHOOL. Mr J. McKenzie, Chairman of the j Loyal Committee, presided at the annual distribution of prizes in this district on Wednesday afternoon. There was a very large attendance of children and their parents and friends,_ A school treat had been provided for the children in the playgrounds, and after it had been done ample justice to, an adjournment was maae to the school, where the prizes were presented. At the end of the general presentation, Mr Mackenzie, on behalf of the pupils, presented each member of the teaching staff (Mr and Mrs Dyer, Miss Drydtn Miss Lockett and Miss Donald) with handsome and valuable presents. Votes of thanks to the teaching staff and Committee having been proposed by Major Messenger and Mr Suisted respectively, the proceedings, which had been interspersed with music throughout, terminated by the singing of “ God Save the Queen," LOWER HURT. Pitzherbert to pupil most proficient in geography—P. Walmsley. Sir William Pitzherbert afterward addressed the children, and the children in return gave Sir William three hearty cheers. The headmaster, Mr .Barry, kindly thanked Sir William for presenting the prizes. The children then adjourned to a paddock kindly lent by Messrs G. and W. T. Gudby, where races and various games were entered into, and at 3 p.m. the children sat down to tea, after which they returned to the paddock, and various games and pastimes were carried on till dusk, thus terminating a very enjoyable day, MAEIST BROTHERS’ SCHOOL. His Grace Archbishop Redwood distributed the prizes won by scholars at the Marist Brothers’ School, in Boulcott-street, last night.
