THE COUNTRY MEMBERS’ MANIFESTO.
In another column of this r issue we publish a manifesto which was issued last night by the country members of the House in iustification of
tut; lluuoc ill j ui the position they have taken up in the present struggle. As the manifesto consists merely in a lucid and well-compiled recapitulation of arguments already dealt with in our columns, it is needless that we should go over the same ground again, which would be necessary if we reviewed the manifesto at length. It is unnecessary for us therefore to say more than that while the arguments employed may justify a demand for 20 or 25 per cent, allowance to rural districts, they assuredly do not constitute any ground for the extortionate claim of 33£ or 50 per cent, which has been set up, but which we trust will be successfully resisted.
