COMMERCIAL.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Palmerston North, November 1. At Messrs Stevens and Gorton’s stock auction to-day* there were large entries and a fair attendance, but rather dull sale. Cqttle realised slightly lower prices;shorn sheep maintained their prices ; pigs brought good prices. The following are the figures : 3-year-old steers, £3 10a to £3 12s; forward bullocks, £4 14s ; fat cows, £3 10s to £4 10s; 2-year-old steers, £2 7s 6d; 2J-year-old steei s, £2 Hs to £2 12a 6d ; 2-year-old heifers, 37a 6d; shorn wethers, 4-tootb, 7s lid; 6-tooth, 8s lid to 9s 3d ; ewes and lambs, 10a; fat pigs, 29a to 345; porkers, 17a fid ; small pigs, 9a 6d to lls 6d. Wanganui, November 1. Albert Barna’ stock sale on Wednesday was largely attended. The yards ware fairly filled with useful sorts of stock. The cattle entered were not first-class, but the market for that class of stook is evidently dull, and, as mentioned some two or three mouths ago, very little rise has taken placed and cattle of any sort are hard to place. Sheep of all classes are in demand-and sell well. Mr Barns reports—“l sold every lino except shorn wethers. These were hardly in good enough condition for killing, and were turned out unsold in 'consequence of the vendor seeking too high a figure. Pigs sold at capital prices. In beef and mutton there is little or no alteration from late quotations. I quote fat cows, medium quality, £3 14s ; mixed cattle, 12 to 18 months, in poor condition, 22s fid to 30s ling heifers, 15s. Sheep —Eat wethers, 14s 3d,; fat ewes and lambs, 12s 3d to 13s Id; hoggets, 8s fid to 10s 9d. Pigs—Fat pigs, £2 to £2 15s : good butchers’ pigs, 15s to 255; stores, 15s; suckers and woaners, 4s fid to 9s fid."
