CRICKET
A cricket match was played yesterday afternoon on the Basin Reserve between St Patrick’s College and an eleven of allcomerefSaptained by Mr GelL St Patrick's scored an easy win on the first innings by 83 runs. The all-comers were disposed of for 37, Gifford (10) being the only batsman who reached double figures. The College ran up a score of 120, McMahon 44 Haydon 15, Sheedy 13, and Mahoney II being the principal scorers. Mr Gell’s team had lost five wickets for 27 (Jones 17, not out) when stamps were drawn. For the victors Mahoney took six wickets for 30, and Tate six for 27. Chisholm bowled well for the losers. The following players will represent the Phoenix second eleven in the Junior Cap match against the Midland second on Saturday next;—Allen, Angus, Beale, M. Clark, Cato, Douglas, Mclntyre, Prince, E. H. Smith, Twist and Vavnham; emergencies, Baggett, Speakman and Duncan.
