MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.
A final meeting of the local Committee for the Melbourne Exhibition was held voaterday at the Chamber of Commerce, when the accompanying report was read by the Chairman, Mr J. B. Harcourt. REPORT OP LOCAL COMMITTEE, The Chairman, accompanied by the Secretary, made a personal canvas of the town, calling at every place of business from Thorndon to Te Aro where it was considered likely that exhibits would be forthcoming. In many places it was found that the persons called upon had already been seen by the Secretary to the Commission, Mr Callis, and very generally there was expressed a disinclination to exhibit. This arose partly from the unsatisfactory result of former experiences with exhibitions and partly from an unwillingness'to incur the expense of preparing exhibits, showcases, &c., at the.present time. A large number of papers were left at the places visited. The following are the names of those who have sent in applications for space Miss E. Kate Sperry, painting; H. D. Turner, painting;; Mrs E. E. Richmond, painting ; Eliza Silk, painting ; Mias Edith Richardson, painting; 0. D. Barraud, painting.; Minister of Lands and Mines, minerals, maps and statistics ; Joseph Gant, Maori painting; Harry Wrigg, pen and ink sketch ; Mrs Stowe, painting ; John Tasker, painting ; Mr and Mrs Merritt, painting ; Conolly and Hermann, photographs; Minister of Public Works, specimen timber, map and photo of works ; OF. H, Tronson, plan of Wellington and fire alarm.; G. H. Linley, carvings:; Hilliard and Nathan, lightning - cleaner;; S. D. - Parnell, table easels ; Gear Meat Company, products ; J. Hebley, sticks, Maori carvings ; Professor Kirk, timber and foliage ; E. Arnold, basketware ; W. H. P. Barber, dyed goods;; J. W. Kinniburg, clutch for lift ;; R. M. Simpson, irrigation pump ; Hayes and Jenkins, totalisator.; Wellington Harbor Board, maps ; Captain Holliday, maps:; W. J. Rout, coffee extractor.; F. M. Gordon, sauce ; George OBastin, model of stable.; H. H. Travers, ferns ; C.»Pownall, rabbit trap and !fibre scraper ; Mrs Brodie, painting ; Sir James Hector, Maori house, etc. ; W. B. Allen, wool ; R. Cobb, wool; W. H. Edwards, Venetian blinds; W.'Cole, butter box ; Hammond and Bishop, cask tilter. It is noticeable that this list contains very little in the way of manufacturing industries. It is satisfactory to be able to report that, though the'Canvaas was begun too late for the past clip of wool, there is likely to be a very creditable display of New Zealand wool at the later Exhibition, as the Sheep Inspector, Mr Bailey, has undertaken to make a thoroughly representative collection from the best Rooks, and to furnish full particulars as to the character of the various localities in which the wools exhibited were grown.
