(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, January 2. The weather was beautiful to-day. Lyttelton Eegatta was largely attended, and ipaased off very successfully. The Yacht Race was won by Mr R. J. Scott's Fleetwing (10 tons), beating Mr M. Miller’s Pastime (8 tons) by 7Amin. The Open-boat Sailing Race was won by Mr J. Durham’s Madge, Mr J. T. Osborne's Dream being second. The Canterbury Rowing Club won the Senior Double Sculls, the Kaiapoi crew being second. The Union Rowing Club won the Senior Pairs, with the Kaiapoi Club second, and Lyttelton third. F. Foster (Union Club) beat G. Wright (Kaiapoi) in the Single Sculls. The Naval Artillery Cutter Race was won by the Lyttelton crew after a hard struggle with the Oamaru Navals, Port Chalmers Navals third, Timaru Navals fourth. Nelson, January 2. To-day was generally observed as a holiday, 'J he weather has been very hot. The only attraction was the cricket match, Nelson City v. Blenheim, which was won by Nelson by three wickets and two runs. Ddnemn, January 2. The Caledonian Society’s sports were commenced to-day in the presence of a gathering of about 7000 people. The weather was magnificent." None of the principal running or wrestling competitions were concluded, and the programme will extend over two more days. Auckland, January 2. C. A. Robertson, a teacher iu the employ of the Board of Education, died at Otara on Saturday morning, the result of a fall from his horse. A man named James Wells was found unconscious in Wellesley-street this morning, and died shoitly afterward. His death was probably due to apoplexy.
