The person named denied the authorship of the letter. A vagrant named Rob Carlyle was found in a person’s washhouse sleeping iu between several little fires he had made on the ground. He was sentenced to one month in the Hokitika Gaol. He admitted in the course of his examination that he had burned down a house in which he had camped at Coal Creek some time ago.
