HEAVY BURIAL EXPENSES.

(UNITED press association.) Auckland, August 19. The matter of obtaining probate in the will of Bishop, who was shot on board the mail steamer at San Francisco, came before Mr Justice Ward in Chambers to.day. The will in question bequeaths the bulk of his property to deceased’s daughters, and excludes his widow from participation, and the latter secured the right to have the will proved by action. • Mr Napier, who appeared for the executors under the will, intimated he had no objec-

tion to probate being sought by a formal action at law ; at the same time he took toe opportunity to draw attention to the undertaker's bill, which had just been received from San Francisco. The account, which amounted to 422 dollars 8 cents, was handed to his Honor, who remarked on perusing at, “ Gracious ' if a dead man coats so much in San Francisco, it must be very expensive to live there. These costs are something awful.” His Honor recommended Mr Napier, in the interest of the public, to have the bill of costa published, and added, trimly, “If anyone wants to go and die m San Francisco, that bill ought to act as a ‘deterrent.”' It was then arranged that probate of the will should be attained by an action. The trial is fixed to take place m October next.
