London, February 11

Count Munster, German Ambassador at Paris, has assured M. de Fleurens, Minister of Foreign Affairs, that Germany does not object to the increased army supplies which have just been voted by the Freuch Chamber.*.

M. de Fleurens objected to General Boulanger sending an aide-de-camp on a secret mission to the Russian Minister of War unknown to the other members of the Cabinet, and the two Ministers have had a violent quarrel in consequence. A petition is being organised asking the Czar to subjugate the Christian provinces of Eastern Europe still under the Turkish yoke. Thousands of people are signing the document. Enormous quantities of wheat are being exported from Odessa in anticipation of a blockade. France has withdrawn her opposition to the abolition of the corvee in Egypt. The remains of the late Archbishop Vaughan were interred at Belmont Priory on Tuesday. Little ceremony was observed, the whole cost of the obsequies being under £lO. It is hoped that the friends of jhe deceased prelate will subscribe to erect a suitable monument over his remains. The Rev Jerome Vaughan and Mr Reginald Vaughan were among those present at the funeral. A city of Sydney loan is to he placed upon the market shortly. Obituary—Duke of Leinster and the Rev Richard Young, a well-known Sydney clergyman. The purchase of the Sydney assets of the Commercial Bank by Wilson and Co. has fallen through, owing to the London Trustees being unable to legally transfer all the assets.
