’ By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. MR GOSCHEN ELECTED. RESIGNATION OF LORD DUNRAVEN. (reuter’s telegrams.) (Received February 10. 10.15 p.m.) London, February 10. The election to fill the vacancy in the representation in the House of Commons of the St. George’s Haaover-square division of Middlesex, took place to-day and resulted in the return of Mr Goschen, Chancellor of the Exchequer, by an overwhelming majority over Mr Haysman, a Radical candidate. The polling was as follows : Goschen, ,5702 ; Haysman, 1545. The report that Lord Dunraven had resigned his appointment as Undersecretary of State for the Colonies has now been officially confirmed. It is understood that his resignation has been caused by the difference of opinion which exists between himself and Lord Salisbury on several important questions.
