FATAL ACCIDENT AT SEA. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland. February 9. _ The barquentine William Phillips, Captain Potter, arrived from New York, via Dunedin, to-day. Daring the passage from the latter port, a seaman named Fred. Barley was drowned. He was on the jibboom stowing the jib when three days out, and fell Into the sen. The high sea and wind prevented the launching of a boat, and nothing was seen of the unfortunate man after ha fell. DEPARTURE OF THE R.M.S. RIMUTAKA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's R.MS. Rimutaka leaves the Queen’s Wharf at 6 o’clock this morning, bound for London. Her berthing and freight lists are not yet com* pleted, and will consequently not appear till our next issue. We ore informed, however, that her passenger listis pretty full, and her cargo of general merchandise and frozen meat is a full one. In connection with her freight, it might be mentioned that she takes nearly 1090 kegs of butter to the English market. She is the first vessel which has taken sucb a quantity of butter, and the reason it is being sent home in such quantities now is no doubt owing to the fact that the Sydney market is overstocked in that particular line. Captain Turpin, who was transferred from the Aorangi, is in command of the Rimutaka. She is expected to reach England about the 20th of Match.
