HERETAUNGA CAVALRY SPORTS.

The Herefcaunga Light Horse held a sports meeting at the Halt Park on Tuesday which was poorly attended, only about 300 people being present. Of these, a number were members of Volunteer companies, and the crew of H.M.S. Miranda was well represented. Lieutenant-Colonel Butts was also present. The sports were not very successful. A programme had been arranged of footracing, jumping, horse-racing, &0., which, if well carried out, would have formed an enjoyable entertainment. As it was, there was really nothing in the shape of management shown. The events were not properly arranged, and it took several hours to get through a very small number of items. No doubt the troop will see its way to providing for better organisation in the future, Mr W. A. FitzHerbert acted as judge, and Captain Horne as starter. Following are the results of the principal events : —2ooyds Race—Harper, 1; Oooner. 2. 100yds Race—Monuooh (scratch), 1 ; Ross, 2, Tng-of War—No, 1 H.M.S, Miranda beat No. 2 Miranda ; Permanent Artillery beat Heretaonga Cavalry; Permanent Artillery beat Miranda No. 1, and won easily.
