The Christchurch Meat Frteziog Company at a meeting to-day decided to amalgamate with Messrs Wilson Bros., of Napier and London, and decided to keep the Company in existence, the principal shareholders expressing confidence that the occasion for atartim? operations would soon present itself. The Canterbury Cricket Association have decided to play 22 men against the Australians, and have declined to agree to the suggestions from the Wellington Association for a representative team to play the Australians or to bold a North Island v South Island match. A house at Hill Norton belonging to Mr George Wade was accidentally burned thi* afternoon. It was insured for £l5O in the National office. Auckland, October 13. J. T, Clarke, charged with arson, was acquitted, the jury thinking the evidence not strong enough. The Judge summed up dead against him. In discharging the prisoner, he said that it was fortunate for him the jury had taken a lenient view of the case. Wanganui, October 13, The Borough Council, last night, refused to grant a salary of £l5O a year to the Mayor.
