Phillip Hayman Dod was brought up before the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer three charges of forgery. Accused was charged with having forged the nume of Messrs Lyon and Blair (bis late employers) to a cheque for £2 10s, which he uttered to Abraham Cass ; to a cheque for £4, uttered to J. H. Shine ; and to a cheque for £4, uttered to James Mulligan. He was re* manded till this morning, bail being allowed in hia own surety.

The Chairman of the Hospital Trustees stated yesterday that there were 20 to 30 typhoid cases in the Hospital, All were pro* greasing favorably, except one young woman, who bad died. The clergy stipends and salaries unpaid to the 31st ultimo amounted to £9Ol 12s 63, against which there wore parochial assessments due to the amount of £692 4s lid, thus leaving a deficit of £209 7s 7d even if everything wefe faljly paid. A fear was expressed that a considerable proportion of the assessment; wo;id' pot be realised. It was statefi’that thefe wa; extfoipo difficulty in collecting pioney in the gonntry districts, and there seemed little hope of any better success at present, owing to the dullness of things generally in the rural localities, consequent on the low price of pastoral and agricultural produce. It was agreed on all bands that the present stats of affairs oould not be allowed to continue, and that drastic measures must be resorted to in order to bring the expenditure within the income.
