At the:Land Board meeting to-day,‘Mr McKenzie moved that an inquiry be held as to whether the'requirements of the X&nd'Acta in their .'true intent and 'spirit are being evaded in the case of the Benmore Kuo. -He stated that previous to the purchase of the lease by Mr Begg as attorney for Mr Docherty, it was . held by .Messrs K. -Campbell and Co., for whom Mrßegg was also agent. As Messrs Campbell and Co., were debarred from purchasing under the “ McKenzie clause,” it was bought by Mr Begg as-attorney lor Mr Docherty, but aathe ron _was apparently
being worked for Messrs Campbell and Co., and the sheep running are branded With their brand, the inference was that Mr DoUhUrty was their dummy. As the run foiined ps.ri of the University endowment, the matter wa* deferred for a Week to Consult the Boatd’a solicitors . ~.
