EDUCATION BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Education Board was held Wednesday morning, all'the iterators being present, viz., Messrs J. R. Blair (chairman), Dr. Newman, M. H. It., W. Buchanan, M.H.R., G. Beetham, T. Mason, G. Y. Shannon, B[. Bunny, Hon. G. R. Johnston, and Rev. J. Paterson. The banking account showed the maintenance overdraft to be £l5O 14s 7d; and the building credit £2GI7 15s Gd, and £1675 8s 9d were passed for payment. Leave of absence was granted for two months to Miss L. Penney, of the Mount Cook Girls’ School. Mr* Heenan was appointed sewing teacher at tho Wallaoevillo School at the usual salary of £5 a year. It was resolved, on tho recommendation of the local committee, to give three months’ notice to Mr Gulliver, of the Korokoro School, and the resignation of Mr Lawrence Porter was accepted. Mr John Larkin, of Wadestown, who it will be remembered, complained some time back of tho treatment of his children at the localschool, again wrote to the board taking exception to the report on tho matter drawn up by the School Committee at the request of the board. The board decided to hear the reply of the committee before dealing further with the matter. Tho Government Insurance Department wrote asking tho Secretary to deduct the amount of the premiums and on a life policy from the salary of one of the teachers. The board decided that no deductions were to be mode on any account, the salaries being paid in full and direct from the oflice to tho teachers. LI 2 was voted to the Petono School Committee towards erecting wet weather sheds at the school, the amount to be paid as soon as theboard was in possession of the recentlyvoted building fund. On the motion of Mr Bunny, a.bell was ordered to be supplied to the Cross’ Creek school. £5 was granted towards papering the teacher’s residence at Wainuiomata. An application for ventilators for tho Whitemrn’s Valley school was referred to the architect. The cost of repairs to tho Ghozneestreot school was estimated at £25, and tenders were ordered to be called for the work. The boundaries of the Belvidere school district, as approved of by the settlers, were confirmed by the hoard. Tho chairman reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made with the trustees f St John’s schoolroom, whereby tho whole of that building was available for carrying on the Terraco School during the alterations now being effected at the latter, and that the school had been removed into the new room on Monday last. It was agreed, on the inotion of the chairman, thqt fenders for the supply of school furniture and apparatus should be called for annually. In order that the office should have the usual vacation from Christmas Day until tho end of tho year, the meeting agreed to adjourn to Wednesday, December 17, instead of the usual day, which would fall on December 31 st.
