Wednesday, December 8, (Before Menard 0. J. Toxward and W. Marten, Justices.) DRUNKENNESS, A first offender w.is fined 5«. VAGRANCY, John IToaley pleaded guilty to a charge of being illegally on thu premises of the Wellington Meat Preserving Company, excusing his conduct on the ground that "he was drunk at the time." Sentenced to 24 hours' imprisonment, BY-LAW OFFENCES. John Tarr pleaded guilty to a charge of drivioo rouud a corner at a pace other than a walk, and was fined 6-, with costs, Thomas Howell pleaded not guilty to a charge of carrying offensive matter iu a vehicle not constructed for that purpose. Constable Flight proved the offenoe, adding that the refuse emitted a most offensive smell. Fined Is, with costs, DAMAGES, George Andrews, who was defended by Mr Shaw, pleaded not guilty to a charge of damaging grass, the property of Thomas Madeley. The evidence for the prosecution was to the effect that the prosecutor was the owner of a piece of ground in Bussex-street sown with grass. On Tuesday of last week Madeley caught the defendant carrying off some of thu grass, and told him that he would make an example of him. Subsequently defendant called upon him, and offered to make good the damage. The defence wa» to the effect that Andrews bad obtains 1 permission to cut grass in a paddock, and he bad entered the plaintiff’s ground by a mistake. The Bsnch ordered defendant to pay Ba for damages, and costs of Court. FEATHER3TON. Wednesday, December 3. BREACH OF THE RABBIT ACT. In the case of Orbell v. Wallace Smith for a breach of the Babbit Act, defendant was fined £35 and co-ts. , maaiNG a lady in a railway carriage. Mary Flowers v. James Hay Stewart.—The defendant was charged under the Public Works Act with kissing the plaintiff in a railway carriage, on the Wellington and M-ster-ton Railway, during a journey to the Upper Hutt on the 26th instant.
