DUNEDIN TOMFOOLERY.
Dunedin, September 1,
The trial of Mr V. Pyke by effigy at Tapanui, was not so successful as was anticipated, because when the Court had assembled it was discovered that the prisoner had escaped—that in, some wag bud stolen the effigy and it could not be found. However, a new image was set up, which was sentenced to be hanged and burned. Mr Pyke had telegraphed that it was impossible persons at a distance could understand the situation, as the newspaper reports were unreliable, and that letters for publication were on the way.
