THE CANDIDATES. The following is a complete list of the candidates nominated for seats in the new Far* liament. In the case of those places where there has been only one nomination the candb date is of course returned unopposed. The letters opposite the names in the list have the following signification : A, supporter of the Atkinson or Ministerial party ; V, supporter of Sir Julius Togel ; G, supporter of Sic G. Grey ; O, Oppositionists, who have not de* dared their leader ; I, independent candidates, not pledged to any party ; D, Doubtful. Ashburton, July 17. Mr John Grigg, one of the candidates for Wakanui seat, addressed a crowded meeting last evening in tho Ashburton Town Hall. He announced himself a supporter of Sir Julius Vogel and a representative of the formers* interest. He expressed himself op* posed to candidates receiving votes of confi* d°oce, and asked them hot to do more than accord him thanks, HW reception throughout wits most enthusiastic. Patea, July 17. Mr A. Fantham addressed a representative meetiog of figment electors here last night and revdved a unanimous vote of confidence. Gisborne, July 17. Captain Porter and Mr Andrew Graham, who were proposed as candidates on Monday, have handed in tboir resignations to the re* turning officer. Tho cont- Tt will now rest between Keca and Locke. The Working Men’s Political Association have not finally decided upon their candidate. They will do so to<morrow night, and are almost certain to choose Rees. AtrokLANt), July 17. Mr Thompson addressed the electors of City North, and received a vote of confidence. He would not pledge himself to either party. He wanted no new combinations. As a Liberal he acknowledged Sir G. Grey as leader of the Liberal party. Thames, Julj 17. Mr Cadman addressed a crowded meeting of the Coromondel electors this evening, and declared himself an opponent of the present Government on taxation proposals ; but would support them as against Vogel and a Southern Confederate. A vote of confidence was carried by 49 to 29. Hokitika, July 17. James Clarke, the third candidate, held his firtt meeting. The Town Hall was crowded. Ho declared himself opposed to the Government, aud a staunch deaominatiooaliat. A vote of confidence was accorded unanimously.
