CRICKET.
Players who have been chosen to practice for the Canterbury match are reminded of the imperative necestdty for immediate and constant practice. Every facility will bo afforded, and it is certain that without practice a poor show will be made by our representatives. Last night, five out of the seventeen chosen made their appearance. If there are any of the selected men who are unable to go, it would save a deal of unpleasantness if they would at once notify Mr Firth of their iuability, so that their places may be at once filled up. Bowlers, whether selected or not, should made a point of affording the team every possible practice.
The usual annual cricket match between the brewers and licensed victuallers of Thorndon against those of Te Aro was played at Island Bay yesterday, the game being a very enjoyable one. To Aro thus wanted 105 to make to win, and to get this they made an excellent start, Knigge and Bacon compiling 31 without the loss of a wicket. The principal scorers were— Te Aro : Freeman, 25 ; Bacon (not out), 10 ; Wakeford, 12 ; and Knigge (not out), 17. Thorndon —Fordham, 20 and 13 ; Glew, 19 ; Brown, 19; J, Staples, 15 and 14; and W.
