FOOTBALL.

The New South Wales football team will arrive this moruing by the Te Anau from the South, and will leave again for the North iu the afternoon. It has been arranged that the return match between the Sydney men and our local players is to take place about two o’clock on the Newtown Grounds. A drag will convey the visitors to the ground, and a special tram will leave for Newtown at 1.30, taking the home team. Players are therefore reminded to be in time. At a meeting of the team last evening at the Empire, Mr Campbell was elected captain of the Wellington team. It was also decided to play in the Athletic Club’s uniform. A half-holiday will be observedin the Go vernment buildings ahdelsewhere to enablethe public to witness the match. The Wellington team is as follows : —Firth, A. Thomson, G. H, rimith, McCardeli, Kirk, McMaster, Campbell (captain), Brown, Caoper, Roberts, Gibbes, Webb, tidy, Morrison, and McGregor. Of the above, McMaster is doubtful. Should he be unable to play, his place will be filed by Peat. The game is fixed to commence at 2 o'clock, and a charge of Is will be made at the gates. It must be borne in mind that the Wellington Rugby Union is some £3O to the bad over the hist match, and it is, therefore, to be hoped that the gate receipts will be sufficiently large to cover the deficiency.
