WELLINGTON HARBOR BOARD.

A special meeting of the Harbor Board was held at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, for the purpose of considering the question of reclaiming the land lying to the south of the Queen’s Wharf which -has been granted to the Board. Present—Mr W. Y. Jackson (Chairman), Captain Rose, 'Messrs G. Fisher (Mayor), E. Pearce, P. A. Krull, and W. H. Levin. The Chairman explained that it appeared ■ advisable to members of the Board to rescind the resolution passed on the 9th March regarding the reclamation of their section. By doing so they would revert to their previous position, when it was understood that their land would be reclaimed together with that of the Corporation. On the 30th September last year Mr Pearce and himself had him appointed a Committee on the -■subject, and they brought a report on the 6th October, and on the strength of that it was decided to proceed with the reclamation. Since then, however, the claims for compensation made by Messrs Plimmer, Reeves and Co. had induced the Board to pass the resolution referred to, which was to the effect that it was not advisable to proceed with the work. Now, however, that they had a. good idea of the value of these claims, it would be to the mutual advantage of the Board and the Corporation to reclaim their land together. The Secretary read the resolution and a -memorandum from the Town Clerk bearing on the subject.

Mr Pearce asked the Chairman what was likely to be the amount of the claim of Messrs 'Plimmer, Beeves, and Co. The Chairman replied that the amount to he paid would probably be infinitesimal, Mr Levin explained that the claim of Messrs Plimmer, Beeves, and Co. would exist whether the reclamation was gone on with or not, as it had not arisen out of the proposal to reclaim, but out of an ejectment suit. After the plans for the proposed reclamation bad been examined it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Levin, that the resolution be rescinded, and to request the Corporation to in--elude the Board’s section in the reclamation. The Chairman and the Mayor were authorised to arrange the proportion of the cost. The Board then rose.
