REVIEW.

“Balqdhiddeo,” “Hob Rot,” to—We have received a copy of an address delivered to the Gaelic Society of Dunedin,by the Rev. James Macgregor, D.D., of Oatnaru, and printed under tlje above heading 1 at the office pf.tW (3taga'“ Rally Times;” ' The address is the result of a visit made by the author to his native mountains a short time before embarking for this colony,'about a year ago. Laid aside from work,, he went to find health among his ain Highland heather, thus reviving the memories as well as the days of his youth. These memories he reproduces in a colloquial, but very interesting form, and the perusal of their narration will amply repay all readers, but especially those who have had the pleasure of visiting the country lying between Calander north towards Loch Earn and west towards the Trossachs. It may have escaped the author’s memory, 1 but it was once our pleasure, in the days of studentlife, to traverse with him. the ground he so vividly describes, and stand together on Ben Ledi—the “ hill of God ” —and we can therefore vouch for the accuracy as well as the interest of his delineations. The portion of the address occupied with the celebrated historical character, Rob Roy,' will have the effect of correcting the false impression which those have of him who know nothing about him save what they have got from romance or song,' and serve to show them that he was neither a “ Highland rogue ” nor. a “ noble savage,’’ but a gentleman of birth, a man of peace, and who was justified by the clan system of war to make reprisals on the Duke of Montrose for the ruin he had brought on the Macgregor family. Copies of the address can be had at Messrs Lyon and Blair’s, of • this city, and we cordially recommend our readers, who know anything of the subject, to secure for themselves the pleasure of possessing one to read at their leisure.
