Christchurch, September 23, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), report on the produce markets forthe<week ending September 21st as follows;--Wool,—Our latest advices regarding the progress of , the sales la London indicate a steady demand, with no alteration in rates. We are advised that the sale programme has been curtailed four days. •, Locally there is nothing passing, but the market for scoured wool will be tested nn Wednesday next by an auction sale of this description. Sheepskins.—Thursday a sales were well patronised by the trade, and spirited competition resulted. We submitted 1619 skins, which realised as followsßutcher's crossbreds, 4s to ss. 6s 6d to 5s 9(1. Cs to 6s 6d ; merinos, Ss 6d to 4s 4d, 4s 9d to 5s 9d, os lOd to 6s / Gd; ; country skins, 2s 4d to 6s Bd, and 6*d/per lb; pelts, 10d to Is. Sundry lines of salted pelts, aggregating 74 dozen, realised from 4s 7d to 5s Id per doz. Tallow and Fat Competition was very keen at all the warehouse*, and full prices were obtained. Our lots made 2*d for inferior to 3d for good. Hides—We •placed ail our consignments at 4d per lb. Wheat— There is no change whatever in the aspect of this market. A little grain remains in the hands of farmers which they are > anxious to quit, but they are not disposed to accept the reduced rates offered. Merchants holding rtocks are firm in their demand for 4s lOd to 5s f.0.b., apparently satisfied to await the development of » scarcity in. Australia rather than break down rates here. Although the Melbourne market has displayed symptoms of weakness during the past few days, it is thought to bejof a temporary character only. ’ Adelaide advices to 9th September report prime wheat selling at 7s,'and town flour at Ll 5. The exports to that date had reached 135,000 tons, or 17,000 tons in excess ot’ the estimate made by Governmental the:Barplasavailab(e lor shipment. Oats—There is i a steady demand j for local trade, and prices are well maintained at 3s to 3s 2d lor good feed, up to 3s 4d, f.0.b., for.prlme milling. We have concluded several transactions at these figures. Some large lines from Waimate and Oamaru have been on offer during the week, but no sales;have been completed. Barley-The position of ..this market ‘is unaltered. Prime malting is not offering, whilst feed Is quite unsalable, except at ruinous rates. Grass Seeds—Several parcels of rye grass have been placed on the. market during the week at reduced . rates. But the demand having suddenly subsided with the advent Of hot winds, no business can be reported. Cocksfoot has suffered from a like cause ln regard to the volume ot business passing, but sales are unaltered at Bid to Bid. Potatoes—our anticipations of last week are likely to be realised sooner’than we expected, as prices have advanced' fully Ss' per ton during the week; 70s, f.0.b., is now asked for parcels. Dairy Produce-Cheese Is in good demand: prime common, 81d, f.0.b., but sales have not been of any moment. The inquiry for butter has diminished, and rates are not quite ao.Arm. . j .
