THE CHRISTCHURCH TRAMWAY.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. ) Christchurch, February 15. The Tramway Company are not in a position to declare a dividend this year. The receipts for the year were £6647 11s lid, while the’ traffic and general expenses have amounted to £5858 2s 3d, leaving a balance of £BBB 18s 3d,; which is not sufficient to enable the Directors to declare a dividend. The traffic fell off during the winter much more than was expected, though it has since increased more than ‘ ever. It is expected that the extension of lines will swell the profits, as the length of line' likely to yield the largest receipts of all is now in hand. The Directors are considering the; advisability of using horses on the short lines, or else manufacturing their own coke, which is the heaviest item of expenditure in connection with the engines.
