CRICKET.

WELLINGTON CRICKET CLUB.

From the attached table of matches, and batting and bowling averages, it will be seen that this, the oldest Club in Wellington, occupied the premier position in the local cricket world last season. Out of eight matches played, the Club won four, the remaining four being drawn, iu two cases decidedly iu favor of the Club, the other two being left in an interesting position. Mr G. Webb heads the batting average with 25.4, and is therefore entitled to hold thejjcup presented by Mr Ledger, and which has to be won two successive seasons, or three times at intervals, before becoming the property of the holder. The bowling analyses are far above the average, Mr Page with 4.5 runs per wicket heading the list. This season it is intended to offer a prize bat for the best bowling average. The Club has this season lost the services of three of its Rest men iu the persons of Messrs Francis, Webb, and H. Page, but has gained a very useful member in Mr Firth, the excaptain of the Nelson team BATTING AVERAGES (Three or more matches.)

VISIT OF THE ENGLISH CRCCKETfRS. Christchurch, November 7.

There is a hitch in the negotiations with the English cricketers for the Christchurch visit. They demand two-thirds of the total receipts after all expenses are paid, and the Lancaster Park Company demand all the rest, except 10 per cent, for the use of their ground. The Association has refused this, and require 5 per cent of the gross receipts, leaving the c mpany and the cricketers to settle their own terms for the use of the ground. This is said to be a final offer on both sides, and as Conway may probably refuse, it is very likely the team will not visit New Zealand at all this year. It has been definitely stated that their visit depends on the bonus they get at Christchurch. The cricketers here think the Englishmen’s demands are too high.
