HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The annual meeting of the above was held on November 10th. The whole of the newlyelected Councillors were present, and Councillor S. Lancaster presided. Ou the motion of Counodlor Mason, seconded by Councillor Smith, Mr Speedy was uaanimous'y elected Chairman for the ensuing twelve months. Councillor Smith moved a cordial vote of thanks to the retiring Chairman (Councillor S. Lancaster), and remarked that that gentleman had given entire satisfaction to the ratepayers, and also to the members of the Council during his terra of office. Councillor Monaghan seconded the motion in similar terms of praise. Councillor Lancaster acknowledged the compliment, and expressed his pleasure at seeing the same members re-elected, which was sufficient to show that the ratepayers of the Countv were satisfied with their past actions. He also thanked the Councillors aud officers of the Council for the support aud courtesy extended to him while fulfilliug the duties pertaining to the office of Chairman, aud soiicite 1 the s : -me consideration' for his successor. Councillor Lancaster then vacated the chair, and Councillor Speedy was formally inducted therein, and briefly returned thanks for his election. Accounts for expenses incurred by the late county elections, amounting to £34 16s 6d, were passed for payment. The following notices of motion were tabled for tbe next meeting, after which the Council adjourned ; —By Councillor Taylor, “That Councillors Mason, Chew, Lancaster, and mover be appointed a Finance Committee, and Councillors Monaghan, Lancaster, Dick, Mason, the Chairman, and mover a Public Works Committee.” By Councillor Monaghan, “ That all subsidies, less working expenses, received by the Council on behalf of the Karori-Makara Biding, be handed over to the Kilbirnie and Makaraßoad Boards.” By Councillor Taylor, “ That the Engineer be instructed to put hand-rails on McGrath’s bridge at tbe Porirua ferry."
