WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT MEETING.

The Wesleyan financial district meeting wan held at Wesley Church on November 16. The following were present : —Rev. W. Kirk, Wellington (Chairman of the district) ; Bev. R. S. Bunn, Napier; Rev. W. Cannell, Hutt ; Rev. B. Bavin, Wellington (Secretary) ; Rev. W. G. Thomas, Greytown ; Rev. E. Neilson, Norsewood ; Bev. J. Dukes, Masterton ; and Rev. H. Warahi, X’aita. Lay members—Messrs Moihatn, Knight, Watt, Hunt, Gordon, Crowther, and Stone. Properties.—Mr S. Stone, District Secretary, read a summary of contents of Circuit schedules, and received the cordial thanks of the meeting. The following figures will show the state of the properties in the district : —Present value, £30,929 ; present debt, £13,531 ; insurances, £12,825 ; value of buildings, £20,125. N.B. —Re the Wellington Circuit, the present value of the Mannersstreet property is £6OOO ; when this is disposed of, the total value of Church properties in the Circuit will be £14,000, and the total debt £4OOO. Kapier Circuit has property valued at £2OOO, which can be disposed of, reducing the debt to £7OO on property valued at £2550.

New Erections Completed during the Year.—Hutt: Repainting of Church, Schoolroom, and Parsonage, at a cost of £35 on additional debt. Greytown ; A new Church at Feathereton to replace the one destroyed by fire, 20 x 82, wood, cost £206, to seat 100 persons ; £IOO debt; total debt on property reduced by £IOO. Carterton ; Church site presented by Mr A. Andrews, 60J by 250 links, value £SO. Norse wood : Improvements, lining church, erection of galleries and furnishing parsonage, at a coat of £IOO ; no additional debt. Manricevilio : Anew church, cost £l5O, 80 x 18, wood ; no debt.

Erections and Purchase Sanctioned.— Wellington asks permission to erect a new schoolroom, towards which £6OO is in baud, proceeds of Bazaar ; no additional debt to be incurred Greytown asks permission to build a new church at Carterton, cost £3OO, Conference regulations to be observed.

Sale or Leasing of znt Lands or Buildings Wellington repeats its request to sell balance of Manners-street and the Terrace Parsonage. X’he Scandinavian Mission renews its application to sell an acre at Norsewood, the proceeds to be devoted to the euargement of parsonage. Contingent Fund. —Rocepts, £54 2s lOd. Home Mission Fund. —Receipts for 1881, not yet complete ; expenditure for 1881, £127 He 5d ; estimate receipts for 1882, £155 ; net expenditure for 1882, £l3O. (N.B. —If Greytown takes a married minister, £so—£lßo.) Foreign Missions. —Receipts for 1881, £3O 15s. Children’s Fund. —Receipts, £73. Supernumary Fund.—Receipts, circuits, £66 18s 9d ; receipts, ministers’ subscriptions, £44 2s; total, £lll 9d ; less 15s 9d, £llO ss. A review of the general returns for the year showed an increase in several departments. We report fifteen Churches and 4700 adherents. The Sunday School returns showed an increase in children and books. Balance-sheet of Wellington Trust Fund was received and adopted.

Miscellaneous Resolutions.—That this meeting earnestly recommends Conference to direct the quarterly meetings throughout the coanextinn to make arrangements, by which the spiritual education of the children may be more fully attended to. 2.. That the District Meeting, having very carefully considered the whole case of the Greytown Circuit, and their request to be relieved of the appointment of a married minister next year, recommends that the invitation of the circuit quarterly meeting be granted ; that in case a married minister be sent to Greytown, a grant of £SO be made. 3. X'hat the amount required iu New Zealand for the Amalgamated Children’s and Educational Fund be raised as per recommendation of last year. 4; That the Relief Fund mooted by Mr Crowther be earnestly recommended to Conference, in terms of former resolution on the subject, with the exception that £7OOO be raised for the purpose instead of £SOOO. 5. That Rev. W. Caunell be our representative in the Stationery Committee at the next Conference. 6. In consequence of the long and severe illness of Brother Bavin, this meeting recommends his case to the Conference, and that a grant be given from the Home Mission Fund.
