FATAL BOAT ACCIDENT.
(UNITED PISESS ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, November 27.
Yesterday morning a fatal boat accident occurred on the Waitara Elver, resulting in the death of William Ody and his wife. They, with their little child about seven months old, were in a sailing boat on the river, the wife steering, when the boat “ jibbed,” and the mainsail knocked her overboard. Mr Ody jumped into the river after his wife, who clung to him, and, after a struggle, they were drowned. The man’s body was recovered three hours afterwards, but up to a late hour last night the woman had not been discovered. The child was in the boat, and was recovered alive.
