An important decision affecting electoral matters was given to-day by Mr Beswick, Resident Magistrate, who decided the case of Weston Worthington, who was proved to have obtained a registration on the Wakanui electoral roll, although he had not complied with the residential qualification, having only resided in the district some five months ; That, under the 28th section of the Act, he had no power to strike the name off the roll, notwithstanding the misrepresentation, as the Act prescribed this could only be done in the case of death, or the written consent of the person registered. Mr O'Reilly, candidate for Wakanui, broke his collarbone by being thrown from his horse on Saturday night, whilst riding to Rakaia to address the electors.
