CABLE NEWS. (REUTER'S TELEGRAMSJ London, August 16. Numerous land meetings are being held throughout Ireland. At the recant meetings at Kildare, Mr. Dillon, the Home Rule member for Tipperary, has made several seditious speeches. The Rowena and Porest Queen are still ashore at Waitara. An inquest has been held ou the body of the fireman of the Rowena who died on Sat* urday. The evidence went to show' that he died of apoplexy. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned. i Christchurch, August 17. At the City Council last night. Councilor Hubert gave notice of motion requesting the Government to establish a Major’s Court as Christchurch. During last week the Benevolent Association gave relief to 71 persons. During the quarter ended 30th June, fiftyfive cases of typhoid fever and eighteen of diphtheria and scarlet fever occurred at Christchurch. Consequent upon notice of of wages, the men at the Glentnunel Colliery struck yesterday. It is proposed to establish a gas company at Sydenham, a suburb of Christchurch.
