RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Saturday, June 21. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Eliza Wilson was charged with being an habitual drunkard, her last offence having been committed on Lambton-quay the previous morning. Sergeant Donnelly deposed to the number of times tho defendant had been convicted for this offence. Defendant pleaded hard to be let off, promising that she would go away and endeavor to live respectably ; but Mr. Mansford having reminded her that upon the previous occasion upon which she was before him he had told her that if she offended again she would be treated as an habitual drunkard and punished accordingly, he sentenced her to three months' imprisonment. AFFILIATION. John Hoggie was brought up on warrant, charged with refusing to support his illegitimate child, of which Emma Jones was the mother. Mr, Gordon Allan appeared on behalf of defendant, and asked for a remand. He said the matter might be arranged out of Court. It was rather a complicated affair. The case was remanded to Tuesday, defendant being admitted to bail in his own recognizance of £2OO, and two sureties of £IOO each. ASSAULT. Nicholas Majione, alias Fernandez, was called, he being charged with having assaulted Gulio Orlando at Wellington on April 24. Defendant not being present, the case was formally adjourned to Tuesday, there appearing to have been some misunderstanding as to the date on which the case was to be heard.
