THE DUCK CREEK BRIDGE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMS*. Sir, — I see by the papers that tenders are again invited for the erection of the Duck Creek bridge, and the formation of the new piece of road where the old causeway stood. X understand that several contractors intend putting in for it, and it ia to be hoped that the Hutt County Councillors wilt see their way clear to accept one of the tenders. They must bear in mind that this is not a district bye road, but the main trunk line of the north western road, and that it affects travellers from Wanganui and Manawatu as much as it does those residing at Pahautanui. The proposed deviation bf the road will save the distance of a quarter of a mile round where the present road now is, and of course there will be that much the less to keep in repair. This road is travelled twice daily by Hastwell's coach, Prosser's coach, and several other conveyances, but we will take Hastwell’s, the mail coach, for an example. When the new road is made, it will save it half a mile a day, which amounts to 156 miles in the year. The road between Pahautanui and the ferry is also iu a bad state, and wants a coat of good metal on it from one end to the other.—l am, &c., B.
