On the 18th instant a heavy squ all struck the vessel, tearing the mizen-st wnall to pieces, and splitting both the lower topsails, but ll" other damage was done. The barque Edwin Bassett, for Newcastle, got awav yesterday forenoon. The steamer Tui arrived i« harbor yesterday afternoon after a passage of 12 hours from Wanganui. The steamer Go-Ahead loft yesterday afternoon for Wanganui. The steamer Manawatu sailed yesterday for Wanganui, AVo are indebted to Mr. S. Bonder owner of tho schooner Shepherdess for a copy of a telegram re ceived by him on Monday night, conveying the intelligence of tl)o wreck of that vessel in the harbor of Kaikoura. It appears that owing to a very heavy easterly swell the schooner parted all her moorings, and was driven on the rocks, where she proceeded to break up. Tho Shepherdess arrived at Kaikoura on Thursday last, from Havelock, with a onrgo of timber. She was an old vessel, having been built at least 40 years ago, but her timbers, blue gem, it is said, were sound, and she had recently undergone a thorough repair. The insurance had just expired, however, und the companv had refused to renew the police, the vessel at the lime being at sea, ,Mr. Bender values her at E 460. She wis 30 tons register, and was in charge of Captain Bllby. ARRIVAL OF THE ISAAC HALL, FROM NEW YORK VIA LYTTELTON. Tho Isaac Had, an American baique of 605 tons, arrived in harbor after dark last night from Lyttelton, ■with part of her original cargo for Wellington. She is owned by Messrs. J. If. Winchester and Co., of New York. She had on leaving 1200 tons of cargo on board, c insisting nf the usual variety of American goods. Amongst her cargo was a line of 400 cases of kerosene, which was landed at Lyttelt n. Her maslor. Captain Adams, reports :—Left New York on December P.
