EDUCATIONAL.

In accordance with the provisions of the Education Act notices have been issued to the chairman and members of the various local school committees, requesting them to be good enough to forward to the Secretary of the Wellington Education Board, not later than the 31st instant, the names of two persons, male or female, whom the committeemen consider fit and proper persons to be members of the Board. The consent in writing of the persons nominated must be first obtained, and forwarded with the nominations. The retiring members, who are eligible for re-election, are the Venerable Archdeacon Stock, Rev. J. Paterson, and Hon. O. J. Pharazyn. These elections seem to be conducted by means of a rather cumbersome but certainly very deliberate process. The msminationa are completed in January, and a curious point is whether they should be made by the outgoing or the incoming committees. The committee elections take place ou the 27th, and there would therefore just be time in some cases for them to make the nominations. However, the nominations having been made, the Board forwards to each committee a list of the whole of the nominations made, and the committees, on receipt of the list of candidates, are to meet, and after due consideration forward to the Secretary the names of not more than three candidates (it may be a less number). From the list so forwarded the present Board proceed to ascertain the three candidates who have obtained the greatest number of votes, and these three will constitute the new members of the Education Board. The time occupied in working out this process is something like two months, so that if the best men are not elected it cannot be because there was insufficient time for consideration.

It may also be stated that the committees at present in office must by law send iu their annual reports before the expiry of the present month.
