(REUTERS TELEGRAMS.; London, January 21. Consols, 96£. Wheat, 48s. to 49a.; beef tallow, 85s. (SPECIAL TO PRESS AGENCY.; London, January 21. Berens, Ranniger, and Co., merchants, have failed ; also, Rosedale and Terry Hill, iron merchants, Middlesbro ; liabilities, half a mil. lion. Melbourne, Thursday. Tenders are invited for the construction of the Melbourne Exhibition buildings. A Cooktown telegram reports the total failure of the New Guinea expedition, which left Melbourne last August in the schooner Dove. They found no gold, and the party were prostrated with fever, of which four died. The remainder of the party were attacked by natives in canoes, but escaped. Shortly after the schooner sprung a leak. The party, which was terribly reduced by disease, was taken to Yokohama by the British ship Larruncelot. (?) Sydney, Thursday. The Bulli coal mine loek-out dispute will probably be settled next week. News from Brisbane advises the total failure of the Melbourne expedition to New Guinea, The whole party is prostrated with fever. Four died. News from Hongkong states that a disastrous fire occurred there. Ten acres and a half acres of buildings were destroyed, including the civil hospital and police barracks.
